On the starting line of the Nascar track at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Yes that is a Cop behind me. We were getting ready for a photoshoot and I guess they wanted to make sure we weren't going to take a "Lap" around the track.

DRIFTER? or DAILY DRIVER? 2964
PART ONE.....THE DECISION! 1986 Toyota Carolla GT-S
As with any project, first decisions then money, where's the money coming from? Do I cut my family's food intake to just two meals a day? (kidding), Do I work 7 days a week and neglect my family? I know, I make my wife also work 7 days a week and charge my 18 year old daughter 500 a month for rent.... OR, do I make our AE86 a weekend warrior? I guess I can make simple bolt-on mods along with a clutch upgrade and a rebuilt tranny, as I said before, my syncros are out between 1st and 2d and nearly gone between 2d and 3d. Now, I know nothing about tranny's and if I am wrong about the syncros then let someone step forward and explain the whole mechanics of my 5 spd. I don't take anything personal I just take it as a learning process. So, what to make out of my 1986 Toyota Carolla GT-S
You know, when you buy a used car whether from a dealer or private seller, they will often tell you anything to make a sale. This mechanic I bought it from said he just replaced the timing belt, put new rings on the pistons with a light hone job and replaced the clutch. I am going to have to say I believe him on the ring job. The engine pulls very hard in all gears in otherwords it's very peppy for a 210,000 mile engine. It leaks oil though onto the heat shield somewhere near the distributor.
I guess this starts PART II. THE FINAL DECISION. #1 My wife is using it for work...Damn! #2 We have bought a set of rims off ebay #3 We decided on a body kit from Japan. #4 We selected an exhaust system and it should be here anyday (June/15/05 #5 We are undecided however whether to stay 4AGE 16 valve or go with the 20 valve or better yet the GT-Z Supercharged motor. #6 Our tranny is getting ready for a rebuild. #7 We got an OS Geiken twin plate selected from Japan. Will keep up with pics and progress as it happens.
Well, I got another one. This is a 1985 AE86 I just picked up from the local junk yard for a measely $300. I just happened to be in the yard looking for 240SX parts when they were getting ready to yank off the gas tank and drain all the fluids. It did not come with a title though. So, we will use this as our local track car instead of beating up my other one.

Just thought I'd show the AE86 model#. Most people when they ask to look at my engine, they first look to see the AE86 stamped on my firewall.
Well,I finally got another car for my wife to drive so she would retire this one to....ME! The big However is I got her a 1993 240SX Coupe...Damn! We are doing the Silvia front clip conversion with matching side skirts and rear bumper. So now my AE86 project can get under way. About 20 miles from my house in a one stop light town called Baker there is a Auto Repair shop with a Dyno, you'd never know it by driving thru it. Typical three pulls on the dyno is $50.00. So, my Hatchi-roku and along with another 240sx hatch and a Supercharged 1990 CRX will go and get dynoed, you know, the before Mod changes, then after the Mod changes. I think the AE86 twincam engine is supposed to be a mere 95hp (+ or -). Behind the wheel with hard launches it feels like 200, but I am sure as a by stander watching the launch, you'd probabely laugh thinking how slow it looks, or really is. Anyway, if you drove it you would agree how peppy it feels. So the project officially begins.
This car is complete and in great shape. Wonder why someone would junk her? Must have been a "tow away", abandoned car. Can't wait to dig in and tear out the interior and try starting her before yanking out the motor.
